Moulin de Reysson

AOC Haut-Médoc

Moulin de Reysson derives its name from the remains of a windmill (‘moulin in French’), nestling at the heart of the Chateau’s vineyard. A viable alternative to its older sibling Château Reysson, this Haut-Médoc wine draws all the benefits of the same terroir, and the same care in the vineyard and winery alike. Produced from younger vines, it will undoubtedly delight fine wine aficionados.

Tasting notes

Attractive, bright and ruby-red. Appealing fruit aromas on the nose redolent of blackberries and fresh strawberries. Supple and appealing on the palate with a delicate tannic structure to caress the palate. A charming wine with a savoury, fruity finish.

The vintage

2020 is an early, demanding vintage, which afforded the teams little respite. This was a year defined by nerve-racking disease pressure and contrasting weather. Winter was mild and wet, fully replenishing water reserves in the soils, and followed by a particularly hot spring with plentiful rainfall. The conditions promoted vine growth, and coaxed budburst and flowering to arrive ten to fifteen days in advance, varying from parcel to parcel. The dry summer and lack of water set in later this year, and was also cooler than the norm. From mid-July onwards, the heat triggered perfect maturation in the grapes, while lack of water carries the promise of great complexity and generous tannins. This vintage is defined by the 10-day precociousness, small berries, high quality, tannic juices and terrific aromatic freshness.

Château Reysson is a magnificent wine, classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut-Médoc. It finds its orgins at the summit of a stunning plateau, and unusually for the Medoc, on clay-limestone soils, where Merlot is seen to thrive. The wines are fleshy and juicy on the palate, enhanced by the mineral character of Cabernet Franc. Well-balanced and fresh.
