The Mosaic de la Garde project is the fruit of a unique partnership between Château La Garde and renowned painter Jean-Baptiste Besançon.
Mosaic is a limited-edition collector’s box of 6 vintages from Château La Garde’s unique floor mosaic.
There are only 1000 bottles of each, i.e. 1000 boxes. They will be sold mainly at the estate. Each box contains a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by the artist himself!
Brand Director Valentin Jestin explains:
“This boxed set is a real tribute to the terroir of Château la Garde. In fact, the 6 cuvées correspond to the 6 major grape/soil combinations found on the estate. In fact, our diversity at Château la Garde is much greater, as we have no less than 27 different types of soil. Depending on these soils, we choose the most suitable variety, and it just so happens that to express this diversity we’ve chosen 4 combinations in Merlot and 2 combinations in Cabernet Sauvignon.”
The artist
“We chose to work with Jean-Baptiste because he’s a humble and talented local artist. He has an original way of painting, working on the reverse side of the canvas, so that the motifs appear through transparency. It reminds us of our soil logic, those invisible layers that you can feel in the wine,” explains Valentin.
Extracts from works of art
“We selected a work of art and isolated “extracts” from it to create the 6 labels, one for each cuvée. These extracts of works can live independently of each other, but form a harmonious whole.”
Responsible packaging
“We haven’t put a capsule on these cuvées, both for ecological reasons and to leave room for the artwork. This is the first time we’ve packaged wines without capsules. We chose recycled and recyclable paper. We chose a kraft cardboard box with a streamlined design rather than a wooden crate. In fact, cardboard is 4 times lighter than a wooden case,” concludes Valentin.
