We were recently delighted to host Alexandre Ma, the internationally renowned wine critic, for a vertical tasting at Château La Garde. He has discovered the distinctiveness of our terroir and the craftsmanship of our teams, who are dedicated to shaping the estate’s wines.
Nestled in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château La Garde benefits from a rich diversity of soils. As Alexandre Ma noted, “Within its 57 hectares of vineyards, a complex mix of gravel, clay, limestone, and sandy soils creates an exaggerated variety of 27 different soil types.” This remarkable variety is reflected in our wines, where the interplay of aromatic depth, elegance, and complexity is perfectly balanced.
Throughout the wine tasting, Alexandre Ma praised the precision of the aromas and the silky structure of our wines. He highlighted the vibrant character of the younger wines, with their lively fruit notes, as well as the depth and richness of the older vintages, which reveal subtle hints of underbrush and spice. Each wine, he said, tells the story of its unique vintage.
Alexandre Ma also emphasized the importance of the sustainable practices implemented at Château La Garde. These ongoing efforts to protect the environment and reveal the authenticity of each vintage reflect our house’s commitment to sustainable, respectful viticulture.
